The muon system of the Run II DØ detector

چکیده
We describe the design, construction and performance of the upgraded DØ muon system for Run II of the Fermilab Tevatron collider. Significant improvements have been made to the major subsystems of the DØ muon detector: trigger scintillation counters, tracking detectors, and electronics. The Run II central muon detector has a new scintillation counter system inside the iron toroid and an improved scintillation counter system outside the iron toroid. In the forward region, new scintillation counter and tracking systems have been installed. Extensive shielding has been added in the forward region. A large fraction of the muon system electronics is also new. 1 Corresponding author. Tel.: + 630-840-3851; Fax: + 630-840-8886; E-mail address: [email protected]

DØ Upgrade for RUN II
The DØ detector at The Fermilab Tevatron is undergoing a major upgrade to prepare for data taking with luminosities reaching 2× 10 cm s. The upgrade includes a new central tracking array, new muon detector components and electronic upgrades to many subsystems. The DØ upgraded detector will be operational for RUN II in spring 2000.
متن کاملB Physics at DØ
The Fermilab Tevatron (pp), operating at √ s = 1.96 TeV, is a rich source of B hadrons. The large acceptance in terms of rapidity and transverse momentum of the charged particle tracking system and the muon system make the upgraded Run II DØ detector an excellent tool for B physics. In this article, we report on selected physics results based on the first 250 pb −1 of Run II data. This includes...

The DØ experiment enjoyed a very successful data-collection run at the Fermilab Tevatron collider between 1992 and 1996. Since then, the detector has been upgraded to take advantage of improvements to the Tevatron and to enhance its physics capabilities. We describe the new elements of the detector, including the silicon microstrip tracker, central fiber tracker, solenoidal magnet, preshower de...

Imaging and identifying materials with high atomic numbers and densities, especially radioactive materials, is one of the issues that have been especially considered in recent years. Due to some limitations in conventional and old imaging techniques, finding an alternative method is very important. The cosmic muons with an infinite source are one of the sources that have been recently studied f...
